Reading through the book of Exodus, it was evident that our God was concerned with details. He gave Moses precise instructions on how to build the tabernacle. The type of wood, curtains, and colors of the veil and screen to the doorway were a few examples of His design requirements. He also called specific people by name to be His skilled workmen. He filled them with the Spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge.
I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship. …and in the hearts of all who are skillful I have put skill, that they may make all that I have commanded you. ~ Exodus 31: 1-6 (NASB)
God gifts each of us with abilities and desires us to use them for His glory. With willing hearts, we must choose to obey and contribute what He has given. Our experiences, lessons we’ve learned, and the understanding we’ve gained become a part of our sacrifice. He will help us overcome our fears, doubts, and natural instinct to hide. What we bring to the table to do His work will be sufficient. He will provide where we are lacking and fill in the gap. We are enough, because He is enough.
Thus the people were restrained from bringing any more. For the material they had was sufficient and more than enough for all the work , to perform it. Exodus 36:6,7 (NASB)
God knew what was required to get His job done. He needed acacia wood, goat’s skin, and blue, purple, and scarlet material for the tabernacle. He knew who to call for each specific task and commanded Moses to lead the project. God reminded Moses that His presence would go with him and He would give him rest. Moses did not move forward without God’s leading. He did everything that the Lord commanded and thus finished the work. He found favor in God’s sight and was blessed.
Moses responded… “If your presence does not go with us , do not lead us up from here.” Exodus 33:15 (NASB)
What is God asking us to accomplish in His strength, and are we up for the task? Are we willing to be vulnerable and share the knowledge he has given us? We must be ready to step out into uncomfortable places. When our hearts are stirred and we turn in trust towards Him, we can finish the job. He is the Master Craftsman and is in the business of making beautiful, artistic works out of our meager contributions. Details matter as He sets each person and piece in place. He promises to go with us and He will give us rest.
He will confirm the work of our hands; listen to his voice and go forth!
