Words of a Whisperer

Bird

The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
And they go down into the innermost parts of the body. ~ Proverbs 18: 8 (NASB)

My husband and I had a friendly visitor every morning while we ate breakfast in the open air restaurant of our motel in Maui.  He feasted on plenty at everyone’s table each morning.  If you forgot to cover your unfinished food when you went up to the buffet table, he was quick to grab what was left.  A smart little fellow, he learned quickly that my husband was a bird lover and knew where to go for his dainty morsels.  He was well taken care of the week we spent on the Island.

Likewise, we learn who to go to for our daintiest morsels.  When we are discouraged and can’t see through the fog, those who know us best will speak to our innermost being.  It is the whispered words of friends that spur us on to do the rebuilding. Listen to the voices that matter, the ones that whisper truth and lead you to freedom.  And listen to the one who has inscribed you on the palm of His hands.

Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.
Your builders hurry;
Your destroyers and devastators
Will depart from you. ~ Isaiah 49: 16,17 (NASB)

When discouragement weighed heavy on Nehemiah as he rebuilt Jerusalem, he held his weapon in one hand and rebuilt with the other.  For protection, he set families to stand behind those working on the walls and the gates.  He was determined to finish the job and restore his beloved city.

As we rebuild our broken homes, we strategically set prayer warriors behind us to protect us as we work.  We seek God’s truth, hold on to it with one hand as we walk through the ruins, and attempt to rebuild with the other.  We listen to those that whisper truth to us…

But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.  ~ Proverbs 4:18 (NASB)

We try to shine like the first gleam of dawn, but some weeks leave us exhausted emotionally and physically….another storm hits, sleepless nights and early morning risings, and our thoughts cycle round and round with the questions we are asking.  The Way seems blurred; our losses overwhelm us with their deep pain. Our hands are empty and we have nothing to hold, put down on paper, or to give.  The Way is hard and we stumble flat on our face. We almost welcome the physical pain to ease our inner heart ache and struggles.

How blessed the man you train, God, the woman you instruct in your Word,
Providing a circle of quiet within the clamor of evil, while a jail is being built for the wicked.  God will never walk away from His people, never desert his precious people. Rest assured that justice is on its way and every good heart put right.  Psalm 94:12-15 ( The Message)

He provides through the gathering of friends a circle of quiet in the clamor of evil….Half diet and half regular cokes, shared subs, laughter, silliness, jesting over growing old, reminiscing over shared history, and telling our stories of freedom.  More whispered words from a friend across emails…your story matters.  It needs to be told…it has changed me!  His words are a gift that I won’t soon forget.  Our coming together and bearing one another’s burdens have made a difference in each other’s lives…the telling matters!

The courage to choose change came from whispered words long ago… the daintiest of morsels making a difference, “You can say no.”  If only I had known at such an innocent age that I could say “no”.  Silence perpetuates the abuse, waywardness, trauma and pain.  Sharing interrupts what has always been and brings hope for a New Way.  Through the joining of kindred spirits, we share our hurts and there is hope for restoration.  Healing is possible!

Our God never walks away from His people.  He protects His chosen, and will not abandon us. Providing a circle of quiet in the clamor of evil, He feeds us the daintiest morsels for our souls. This is His training ground, preparation for what lies ahead. Be still and know that He is with you.   He will take care of justice and every good heart will be set right. The path of the righteous will be like the first light of dawn growing brighter and brighter until full day.  There is hope on the horizon…

Listen to the whispers of those who have proven themselves trustworthy!
