How we Walk on Tuesday…

I have directed you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in upright paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be impeded;
And if you run, you will not stumble.
Proverbs 4:11, 12 (NASB)

Easter weekend is a memory and once again our home is too quiet.  The kids were sent back with ham, mac and cheese, rolls, and dessert.  My husband and I are trying to finish the dyed eggs I failed to send with them.  And the refrigerator is still full of food!   Finally, I’m cleaning the house and getting everything back in order, but I’m left pondering the significance of Resurrection Sunday. What does it mean for me on Tuesday as I begin my day?

I woke up feeling sad…grumpy…discouraged…and maybe even a little angry. I couldn’t shake it.  Not a good start after celebrating the stone had been rolled away and our Savior had risen from the dead!  There are times when our loss and physical pain weigh heavy and steal our joy.  We try to paint the smile on our face and wear it deep on the inside.  It fails to happen.   We want to feel differently and don’t know how to get there. The rocky path that stretches before us causes us to stumble…and we fall HARD! We look back and wonder how we got here.  It’s a very lonely place…and we know we need to return.

I found myself back at the scene of His cross today.  I remembered how my Savior was betrayed, spat on, stripped, mocked, slapped, beaten, and a crown of thorns was pressed into His head.  His back was scourged and torn; His hands and side were pierced.  They led Him out to crucify Him and He walked the dusty road to Golgotha alone.  A passer-by, Simon of Cyrene, was pressed into service to bear His Cross. He did not choose this task, or this walk.

As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they pressed into service to bear His cross. Matthew 27:32 (NASB)

My God speaks to me to pick up His cross and bear it. His suffering and humiliation were for me that I may have eternal security.  He is pressing me into service and I need to walk the lonely road set before me. I would not have chosen this cross to bear, but I must carry it.

It is Tuesday and I wonder how to walk…I do some house cleaning of my soul and empty me of self.  I will go forward with courage and like the women who drew near the tomb, I will draw near to the one who suffered for me. I set my feet to moving and my heart to remembering…and I am thankful. It changes everything and I begin to sing on the inside.

How will we choose to walk today and tomorrow? Return to the cross and remember Jesus’ sacrifice…it changes our perspective! How we walk on Tuesday matters…
