After He had sent the crowds away,
He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray;
And when it was evening He was there alone.
Matthew 14:23 (NASB)
Jesus left the crowds and walked alone
He drew away to the mountain by Himself to pray
In the evening hours, the twilight closing in
Lonely shadows following close
He walked
The laborious work was done
He had fed five thousand
And the steep climb was necessary
Time set apart in a sacred place
Rest…revival…truth…direction…replenished
A place to be carried
And the dark night delivered the day
The storm blew in around Him
The rain fell from the skies
Washing
The waves battered
And Broke…
Concerned
Jesus went looking for His friends
Walking on the sea…fearless…the deep below
He spoke
“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”
And Jesus said, “Come!” Matthew 14: 27, 29 (NASB)
Peter walked on the waves with his eyes fixed on Him
He conquered his fears and did the impossible
Until he took his eyes off Jesus
Alarmed by the wind
Anxious of the waves
Doubting the deep
Shaken by the mystery
Afraid of things he couldn’t see
The blurred horizon
Peter began to sink
And Jesus stretched out His hand
And took hold of him
His touch quieted….lifted…strengthened
One touch made all the difference
Jesus carried him
And He will do the same for us
Always by our side…ready to respond
One touch at a moments notice
Waiting…with us
And we get to do the same for each other
