Two blind men sat on the dusty roadside and cried for mercy. The crowds tried to hush them. Instead, Jesus stopped and asked, “What do you want Me to do for you?” They replied that they wanted their eyes to be opened. Moved by compassion, Jesus touched their eyes and they were healed.
Jesus also does a miracle work in His weak and worn-out children today.
Have you considered the question, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
Our Lord was blindfolded so we could see. I pray for fresh eyes to see the heart of Jesus and the Holy Spirit’s keen mercy and compassion to respond to others’ needs with words and deeds.
Jesus had need of a donkey. He didn’t request a stately stallion or experienced mare or mount. No! His disciples laid their coats on its back, and the bystanders spread their coats on the road. They recognized Jesus as their King and paid homage to Him.
Gentle, and mounted on a donkey, a beast of burden, our King came to die.
Days later, Jesus was blindfolded, beaten, bruised, spat on, stripped, scourged, mocked, and crucified. What do you desire today? We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. We need a Savior, grace and forgiveness. While we were yet sinners, filthy, guilty, and condemned, our Lord died for us. Jesus faced the dark so that we may live in the light.
Gentle is His way!
In Greek, the word for “gentleness” refers to the middle ground between unreasonable anger and complacency. It is a choice to control one’s response and submit to God. When Jesus rode through Jerusalem, His strength and forbearance was born from trust in God. Gentleness shows wisdom. And wisdom is far better than strength and weapons of war. (Ecclesiastes 9:16,18)
Lord, touch our eyes and grant us new perspective. Mend our feeble feet, mind, and heart. Heal us whole. Help us to lead and serve wherever you place us.
Jesus was in need of a donkey! That’s right. The untamed and inexperienced have purpose.
Let the light of Jesus dispel your fears, doubt, and shame.
Our Lord is Lord of all our sunrises, clear and white-washed windows, and moonlit ridges and ravines. It is finished! The grave didn’t hold Him. He is risen! Jesus’ resurrection power is for us. Because He lives, we can face tomorrow. Eternal salvation is ours.
Daughters of Jerusalem, your King comes to you!
